Raid Over Halton Hills

The route will wind through the back roads of Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Georgetown with many VERY challenging roads. There will be one lane bridges and sections of twisting roads as well as very steep hills in some sections. Raid Over Halton Hills will be Velocity's most challenging cruise to date.

The cruise length will be approx. 2 hours and will start off in Burlington. We will meet up at 8:30 am on the Sunday at the Canadian Tire parking lot in Burlington's Millcroft Plaza, which is near the corner of Appleby Line and Upper Middle Road. From there, we will hold a brief driver's meeting, and hand out directions for everyone.

Please note, that the roads are quite challenging and that your vehicle MUST be in excellent working order, especially your brakes, tires and clutch / transmission. There will likely be no 'fast' or 'granny' groups on this cruise as there aren't that many areas to open it up. And even in the areas that are good for opening up the speed a bit, there won't be any sections like 15 Sideroad from the last cruise.

We would also *highly* recommend that you have a co-pilot with you who can provide directions while you drive as there are frequent turns and we haven't yet decided if we will be blazing the route as we have in the past. There will however be radios provided again courtesy of lightsandsirens.

The Three Hour Tour

Sunday September 29th. 9:00 am sharp! Rain date will be Saturday October 5th, same time. Combining the best aspects of the Ridge Runner, and Escarpment Escape cruises, this is an extended run primarily on back country roads with good pavement. There is no cost to participate ( but you are responsible for your own expenses).

We have eliminated the less exciting end of the Ridgerunner and will be starting in Grimsby. The nasty Highway 6 crossing has been bypassed while still maintaining the best sections of road in that area (and adding a couple new bits too). Anyone who enjoyed both of the original cruises, will also enjoy the excellent stretch of road we are using to link the two! The course will once again be well marked (the "Triangles" will be Day-Glo Green this time).

Everyone is invited to enjoy lunch at Shoeless Joe's in Georgetown following the cruise.

Here are the directions to the cruise start:

From the QEW Niagara, take the Christie Street exit for Grimsby. Turn south (away from the lake) on Christie street. Continue straight until you see the grocery store and Shoppers Drug Mart on your right. We will be meeting in the lot. Drivers meeting and organizing will be at 9:00 sharp.

Grimsby is approx halfway between Hamilton and St Catherines.

The Cruise is approx three hours and uses about a half tank of gas in a 2.0 MK III. Use this information accordingly. We will stop twice for quick bathroom breaks, but not for gas.

20.07.02 Escarpment Escape Cruise

Starting from the outskirts of Georgetown Ontario, we will blast through the countryside
in a fast paced romp of tight turns, and rolling, hilly straights. The cruise will only
take approximately 40 mins from beginning to end but your heart will be pumping the entire time!

Meeting place will be the Tim Hortons / Pioneer gas station just south of the 401 on
Trafalgar Rd. at 10:00 am SHARP, Sat. July 20th, 2002.

Ridge Runner Cruise

By way of various scenic and twisted roads and hill climbs we will travel through the back roads of Burlington
and Dundas. We will zip through Hamilton on the 403 and the "Link" ( an opportunity for the speed demons among
us to let us hear their exhaust note). Next we will travel above and below the Niagara escarpment (making use of
several steep and challenging accesses) through wine country, ultimately arriving at Historic Old Port Dalhousie
on Lake Ontario, nestled up against St. Catherines, where we will descend upon the many restaurants and bars
following the drive.

The cruise will start from the rear parking lot at Mapleview mall in Burlington On.There will be a mandatory drivers
meeting at 10AM SHARP, Sat. May 25th. Maps will be handed out to each car and unique areas of the route will
be outlined. The first group will leave immediately following the meeting.
There is no cost to participate, but please let us know if you plan to come out so we know how many maps we
need to print up. Please ensure that you arrive at least fifteen minutes before the drivers meeting so we can
get everyone organized. Being late will delay everyone so please make sure you have made a "Pit stop" before
you arrive.

Estimated time of drive: Two hours plus or minus allowing for variations in speed and traffic.

Estimated time to return to Hamilton/Burlington via QEW from Port Dalhousie: Thirty to Forty minutes.

Estimated distance covered in cruise: 130 kms
